The UK’s year-on-year inflation rate stood at 10.5% last December, down from 10.7% in November, marking the second consecutive downward adjustment, the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) said Wednesday.
In the month of December, the year-on-year rise in the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages accelerated to 16.8%, compared to 16.4% in November, while housing supplies increased their cost by 26.6%, in line with the previous month’s rise. On its side, transportation moderated its year-on-year increase to 6.5% from 7.2% in November.
The underlying CPI, which excludes the volatility of energy, food, alcohol and tobacco prices, stood at 6.3% in December, the same as in November.
In monthly terms, prices recorded an increase of 0.4% in the last month of the year, in line with the monthly rise in November and slightly below the 0.5% rise in December 2021.
