The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, reported on Wednesday the success of a police operation aimed at dismantling a criminal gang dedicated to the manufacture and trafficking of weapons and explosive material.
According to the president, the operation has been called ‘Operation Armed Border’ and has deployed police and Armed Forces agents in six provinces of the country and in several other «strategic points» of Colombia.
Lasso emphasized that the weapons manufactured and distributed illegally by this organization did nothing more than «feed violence in the streets, sustain terrorism and involve Ecuador in international arms trafficking».
«Among their arsenal were: rifles, carbines, shotguns and more. The operation resulted in 19 detainees», detailed the Ecuadorian president in his official profile on the social network Twitter, where he also shared images of the police operation, the detainees and the seized material.
«Ecuadorians deserve to live in peace. Together with the Armed Forces of Ecuador and the Police we will fight against every individual, group or organization that pretends otherwise. Every weapon seized today is a life that we have protected from violence,» he assured.
Finally, the Ecuadorian president thanked the Colombian authorities for their collaboration in two of the operations carried out in the neighboring country’s territory. «This is what we achieve when we work together», he celebrated.
