The authorities of the Peruvian department of La Libertad confirmed Wednesday the death of a woman during the blockades that have occurred on the Panamericana Norte, near Viru, as part of the protests against the Peruvian president, Dina Boluarte.
The deceased, a 51-year-old woman, was a passenger on an interprovincial bus and died after a cardiorespiratory arrest without the possibility of being attended by medical teams in time, according to the Ombudsman, José Luis Agüero Lovatón, as reported by the newspaper ‘La República’.
«The Ombudsman’s Office is exhausting all efforts, talking to the leaders so that they make truces and let those who are stranded on the buses pass, that there is humanitarian aid, but apparently they do not intend to do this type of action,» explained Agüero.
The road blockades have also caused a pregnant teenager on her way to Viru to lose her 28-week-old baby, as confirmed by the Regional Health Management (Geresa) of La Libertad.
Numerous passengers have been stranded on the Panamericana Norte and have been forced to cook in the middle of the road with common cooking pots. A group of protesters have kept the road closed with stones and tires since Tuesday night, according to RPP.
