Russian businessman and founder of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said Thursday that members of the group have taken control of the Ukrainian town of Klischivka, of vital importance for the advance of Russian troops towards Bakhmut, in the Donetsk region.
Prigozhin has indicated on his Telegram account that he «can safely say that members of the Wagner Group have seized the locality, one of the most important Bakhmut suburbs.» «It has been completely taken,» he said before warning, however, that «the enemy is clinging to every meter of land.»
«Contrary to the comments that speak of an exit of the Ukrainian Army from Bakhmut, we deny that this is happening,» he pointed out as Russian forces continue to try to seize this locality, which has become since December a symbol of the country’s «indomitability» for Ukrainian forces.
The town of Bakhmut has become one of the hottest spots in the conflict in Ukraine. Authorities in Kiev have repeatedly detailed that it is in Bakhmut that Russia is now concentrating almost all its efforts in order to seize the town.
