The Estonian government said Thursday that it will deliver a package of 113 million euros in aid, the largest supply of military assistance to Ukraine since the Russian invasion of the territory began nearly a year ago.
Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said in a statement that the proposed military aid for Ukraine includes weapons and ammunition valued at that amount, bringing the assistance provided to the country to 370 million euros.
Despite the fact that these supplies are in warehouses used by the Estonian Armed Forces, the Government has assured that this will not reduce the country’s ability to defend itself, as these weapons will be replaced in the future.
«We Estonians know from painful history what happens when evil wins and a big country eats a small one. If Ukraine falls, freedom in other parts of the world will be at risk. By helping them to protect their independence we protect the right of all countries to freedom and democracy,» he said.
In this regard, the authorities have qualified that it is «necessary to continue to deliver armaments to Ukraine». «With today’s action, we are sending arms that Ukraine needs at a time of vital importance,» he added.
«The Ukrainian Army has been able to use our weapon systems skillfully. We want the war to end, but Russia has sent clear signals that it plans to go ahead with this. That is why the free world must continue to deliver weapons to Ukraine,» he has pointed out.
