Finnish authorities announced Friday that they will send heavy artillery and ammunition to Ukraine in what is the twelfth military aid package delivered to the country in the midst of the Russian invasion.
The government said in a statement that this new package is valued at more than 400 million euros and is part of the increase in international military assistance to Ukraine recorded in recent days.
The Minister of Defense, Mikko Savola, confirmed the shipment and pointed out that Helsinki has contributed more than 590 million euros in aid to Ukraine since the war began almost a year ago. In this regard, he pointed out that Finland has the capacity to provide this aid «thanks to its close relationship with Sweden».
Previously, the Finnish President, Sauli Niinisto, indicated that the country could transfer ‘Leopard’ tanks to Ukraine if a project of joint assistance to Ukraine by the European Union finally goes ahead. However, he assured that the number of tanks would be «small» since Finland borders Russia and is not a NATO member.
