The United Nations has sent a first convoy of humanitarian aid to areas near the Ukrainian town of Soledar, located in the Donetsk region and the scene of intense fighting in recent weeks.
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) explained that the convoy of three trucks is carrying «food, water, hygiene kits» to help more than 800 people residing in the localities surrounding Soledar.
A spokesman for the organization, Saviano Abreu, acknowledged to Europa Press that it is not planned to reach Soledar, for security reasons.
The World Health Organization (WHO), the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the World Food Program (WFP) have collaborated in the aid sent on Friday.
Russian forces seized the town of Soledar a few days ago, in a symbolic military advance that has resulted in a worsening of humanitarian conditions in the area, as has been occurring in all areas converted into battlefields.
