Buckingham Palace has offered this weekend new details about the coronation of King Charles III of England and Queen consort Camilla Parker-Bowles that will take place from Saturday 6 to Monday 8 May 2023, whose celebration will include a concert open to the public at Windsor Castle.
The ceremony will be presided over by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the service will reflect «the current role of the monarch and look to the future, while being rooted in the traditions and pageantry of yesteryear,» the royal statement said.
The three-day celebration will be concentrated on the first weekend of May. On Saturday, May 6, the coronation will take place at Westminster Abbey, the procession of the monarch and the royal greetings from Buckingham Palace. On Sunday, May 7, a concert will be held at Windsor Castle and the ‘Grand Coronation Luncheon’ event. The last day, Monday 8, will be dedicated to the actions of volunteer programs.
On May 7, the British news channel BBC and the BBC studios will organize and broadcast live at Windsor Castle a special coronation concert, which will be open to the public with the sale of thousands of tickets.
As announced in the royal statement, through a nationwide ballot organized by the BBC, several thousand people will be selected to receive free tickets to the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle.
The concert will also be attended by volunteers from the King and Queen’s charities and will feature «a world-class orchestra performing musical favorites from some of the world’s leading artists,» the statement added.
In addition, there will be performances by dancers, staging support and special effects located in the castle’s east garden.
On the same day, the Coronation Big Lunch will be held, which will invite all the country’s neighbors and communities «to share food and fun».
Finally, on May 8, ‘The Big Help Out’ day will be held, which encourages people to participate in the volunteer programs that are being carried out in their local areas.
