Jeff Zients, the former White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator, will replace current Biden Administration Chief of Staff Ron Klain, according to ‘The Hill’.
U.S. President Joe Biden will name Zients as his next chief of staff at a time when the president’s popularity has fallen to an all-time low — 40 percent — following criticism over the handling of classified documents. In addition, Biden is weighing his candidacy for re-election in 2024.
Zients led the White House response to the pandemic and during the fall helped Klain with staff turnover preparations for the midterm congressional elections. He has also served in high-ranking positions, including as head of the National Economic Council, during the Obama Administration.
A source consulted by CNN has indicated that Klain, who will step down after the President’s State of the State address on February 7, will remain involved and will remain close to Biden’s team.
