Ukrainian Border Guards reported Monday that they pushed back Russian forces in the vicinity of the village of Bakhmut, considered by many to be a symbol of the country’s «indomitability,» with the help of mortar fire.
The troops have noted that they have made use of «available heavy weapons to counterattack the Russian Army near the town.» «One of the border units, which had to deal with a number of enemy assaults, has managed to advance and seize several positions previously held by the occupying forces,» the Border Guard itself said, Ukrinform news agency reported.
«Faced with the damage caused by the attacks, the Russian invaders have abandoned the front line in the area and fled,» he pointed out before indicating that Ukrainian soldiers have «cleared the area and settled there.» «The losses of the enemy are being analyzed,» he added.
The Ukrainian intelligence considers that the clashes in the east of the country, especially in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, will increase during the next two months.
