The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has announced the suspension of his trip to Buenos Aires, venue of a summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), after denouncing an «aggression plan» of the «neo-fascist right wing» against the delegation he was to lead.
«In the last few hours we have been informed, in an irrefutable manner, of a plan drawn up within the neo-fascist right wing, whose objective is to carry out a series of actions of aggression against our delegation headed by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros,» the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed in a communiqué.
«They intend to put on a deplorable ‘show’ in order to disrupt the positive effects of such an important regional meeting, and thus contribute to the already failed campaign of discredit that has been undertaken against our country by the North American empire,» the note added.
In view of these «extravagant plans designed by right-wing extremists, alienated to external interests» to the region and in order to «contribute to the good development and successful culmination of the Summit», the Venezuelan government has taken the «responsible» decision to send the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil Pinto, as head of the Venezuelan delegation.
Gil has already arrived in Buenos Aires in a private flight, a Lear Jet 60 that left from Caracas and made a stopover in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, according to sources quoted by Infobae.
Previously, the Brazilian government had reported the cancellation of the meeting between Maduro and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, scheduled for this Monday in Buenos Aires.
