Two students have been killed and another person seriously injured in a shooting that occurred Monday at the headquarters of an NGO that provided school support in the city of Des Moines, in the U.S. state of Iowa.
The shooting began shortly before 13.00 hours (20.00, Spanish peninsular time) at the headquarters of Starts Right Here, in the center of the city, according to a police spokesman, Paul Parizek, in statements reported by the newspaper ‘Des Moines Register’.
Parizek said the injured man is undergoing surgery and his condition is serious. The other two victims were found in very serious condition and the officers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers on them, but they died in a hospital. Parizek explained that the victims of the attack «were not random at all».
Eyewitnesses reported that at about 13.20 the police intercepted a car with three suspects about three kilometers from the shooting. One of them fled and was arrested in a nearby building. The other two have also been arrested and are already being interrogated.
The city of Des Moines has recorded at least ten violent deaths since December, including the shooting death of a 16-year-old teenager by police when, according to the police version, he pointed a gun at several officers.
