Colombia’s Minister of the Interior, Alfonso Prada, has welcomed the improvement in relations between the delegations of the Government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) ahead of the meeting in Mexico after the extraordinary meeting held a few days ago in Venezuela to address the misunderstanding that resulted from the announcement of a bilateral ceasefire without the approval of the guerrillas.
«The meeting in Caracas was successful, the atmosphere at the table was substantially improved to work on the issue of the bilateral ceasefire and to advance in the schedule defined by the two parties», said Prada during an act of Pacto Histórico in Boyacá, according to RCN radio station.
Prada’s declarations are among the first assessments known after the extraordinary meeting convened a few days ago in the Venezuelan capital to solve the disagreement that occurred after the ELN denied to the president, Gustavo Petro, about an agreement on a bilateral cease-fire.
The next round of talks is scheduled to begin on February 13 in Mexico City. The first point of that meeting, as already anticipated, will be the long-awaited bilateral ceasefire, which the government has already agreed with four other armed groups that have shown their willingness to negotiate.
