U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan made a surprise trip Friday to Ukraine’s capital, Kiev, where he held a meeting with the country’s president, Volodimir Zelenski, and other senior officials.
This was announced by the National Security spokeswoman, Adrienne Watson, in a statement in which she detailed that, together with Zelenski, Sullivan met with the head of the office of the Presidency, Andrei Yermak, or the Minister of Defense, Oleksei Reznikov, among others.
In Kiev, Sullivan conveyed to the Ukrainian representatives the continued support of the United States for Ukraine in the defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity; and took the opportunity to go into the details of the new military aid package, valued at some 400 million dollars.
Finally, the White House National Security Advisor assured the top Ukrainian representatives that Washington will continue to provide both economic and humanitarian assistance, while redoubling its efforts to hold Russia «accountable».
Sullivan’s visit comes on a day when the United States announced a new $400 million military aid package consisting of refurbished Soviet-era tanks, Hawk defense missiles and drones.
