Far-right Marjorie Taylor Greene says Paul Pelosi could have defended himself if he had a gun

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a far-right Republican congresswoman, has suggested that if Paul Pelosi, husband of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, owned a gun, he could have defended himself from an attack at his San Francisco home.

Greene, known for her blunt rhetoric and for aligning herself with conspiracy theory postulates about alleged voter fraud in the 2020 elections, is also a strong advocate for the use of guns.

«Paul Pelosi should have owned a gun and shot his attacker,» Greene has vociferated during a political event in Sioux City, in the state of Iowa, framed in the electoral campaign for the mid-term elections in the United States, scheduled for next Tuesday.

Likewise, the Republican congresswoman in the House of Representatives has denounced that Pelosi was attacked by «an illegal alien on drugs who should be deported.» «Paul Pelosi should have owned a gun and shot his attacker,» she has insisted.

However, while instrumentalizing the attack on Pelosi for his pro-gun campaign, Greene has criticized the media for focusing in recent days on the assault on the Speaker’s husband, when in fact similar events happen «every day» in the country.

«More Americans are assaulted, stabbed, raped, kidnapped and murdered (…) But the only crime victim you hear Democrats talk about in the media is Paul Pelosi,» he has pointed out.

Paul Pelosi was assaulted at his home in San Francisco last Friday by David DePape, a Canadian citizen with irregular status in the United States. The husband of the Speaker of the House of Representatives was taken to the hospital after being hit with a hammer.

According to police reports, DePape’s real target was reportedly Nancy Pelosi herself, who was not at home at the time. In fact, Pelosi’s absence would have made it easier for the assailant to enter the house in the absence of the usual security detail that accompanies the second in line of the U.S. successor.
