Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has called on Germany to «clarify» its position on the war in Ukraine, launched more than eleven months ago on February 24, 2022, on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Zakharova has indicated that the German ambassador in Moscow should give explanations about the latest statements of German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, in which she pointed out that aid to Kiev does not make Berlin a party to the conflict.
«The German foreign minister declares that her country, together with other countries, is at war with Russia. But the same ministry does not consider her country to be a party to the conflict. Given these contradictory statements, the ambassador (…) should clarify them,» he said via his Telegram profile.
Baerbock expressed in a speech before the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, that Europe has to «do more, also in relation to the tanks, but the most important thing is that we do it together, without blaming Europe, because the war is against Russia, not between us», as reported by the ZDF television channel.
However, the European Union and NATO have been denying since the beginning of the war that they are participating in the war against Russia. In fact, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized that Germany would not become a war party because of the delivery of ‘Leopard’ combat tanks.
