U.S. President Joe Biden on Monday showed his refusal to provide fighter jets to Ukraine, all this days after Ukrainian authorities asked for fighter jets on the occasion of the German unblocking of the tank shipment.
Asked about the possibility of the U.S. supplying Ukraine with U.S.-made F-16s, the White House tenant flatly refused: «No».
The U.S. president’s remarks come after Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksei Reznikov acknowledged that Western fighter jets are next on his «wish list» once Germany has unblocked the supply of Leopard battle tanks.
Likewise, the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermak, assured on Monday that he had «positive signals» about the possible supply of fighter jets from the Polish authorities.
«Work continues on obtaining F16 fighters. We have positive signals from Poland, which is ready to transmit them in coordination with the Atlantic Alliance,» Yermak said on his Telegram channel.
After weeks of insistence, Ukraine finally succeeded last week in getting Germany to unblock the shipment of Leopard tanks by third countries and Berlin to also commit to supplying such battle tanks.
Following this, the Ukrainian authorities have now set their claims on fighter jets, «a great companion» for the battle tanks and with which to succeed in turning «Russian enemies» into «fertilizer».
