UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has argued three years after the divorce with the European Union that the country has taken «great strides» to «build on» the «freedoms» associated with Brexit, promising further improvements going forward.
«In 2016, the British people voted to leave the EU and, three years ago, we delivered on this historic vote,» said Sunak, who unlike other former prime ministers did back Brexit in the pre-referendum election campaign.
Among the successes he has attributed to the Brexit he has included the vaccination campaign against COVID-19, the signing of trade agreements with «more than 70 countries» or «regaining control of the borders». «We have forged a path as an independent nation with confidence,» he emphasized in a statement.
Sunak believes that this momentum «has not slowed down» and, in fact, has pointed out that the UK continues to have «red carpet» for companies and designing a new agricultural policy outside the EU «fairer».
«It is only the beginning of our plans to encourage growth and prosperity and I am determined to ensure that the benefits of Brexit continue to give strength to communities and businesses across the country,» stressed the British ‘premier’.
