The Kremlin on Wednesday denounced «a direct path to increase tensions» over Ukraine in the face of plans being considered by the United States for a new military aid package to Kiev that envisages the delivery of long-range artillery, although Moscow stressed that «it will not change the course of events.»
«Yes, it is a way to increase tensions, increase the level of escalation. We see it. This requires additional efforts on our part, but it will not change the course of events,» said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov. «The military operation will continue,» he said, referring to the invasion of Ukraine, as reported by the Russian news agency Interfax.
Peskov has thus reacted to information gathered hours earlier by the Bloomberg news agency on Washington’s plans for a new military aid package worth 2 billion dollars (around 1.837 billion euros). Sources quoted by this media have indicated that these shipments would include long-range artillery.
U.S. President Joe Biden showed on Monday his refusal to provide fighter jets to Ukraine, days after Ukrainian authorities asked for fighter jets on the occasion of the German unblocking of the delivery of battle tanks, after months demanding the delivery of tanks to face the Russian military offensive.
