British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said Thursday that the UK government will «very soon» introduce new migration control laws after the controversial plan to send migrants to Rwanda was stalled.

«The system I want to bring forward is one where if you come here (to the UK) illegally, you must be detained quickly and, within days or weeks, we will hear your claim, not months or years, and then we will take you safely somewhere else,» Sunak said in an interview with TalkTV, reported by the Guardian.

In this regard, he argued that the population should judge him by his actions to curb illegal migration, such as the signing of an agreement with France to strengthen surveillance of the transit of small migrant boats in the English Channel.

London has also pledged to work with the Albanian authorities, as its nationals represent «30 percent» of all illegal immigrants, with the aim of «stopping the exploitation of young Albanians.

The British Prime Minister has also restated his commitment to the policy of deporting asylum seekers to Rwanda, a controversial measure widely questioned by human rights organizations. Brussels even expressed doubts about the feasibility of outsourcing asylum access and protection schemes for asylum seekers.
