The latest official balance of the wave of fires ravaging south-central Chile maintains 23 deaths and reduces the number of outbreaks out of control from 87 to 51 throughout the country, the National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response (Senapred) of the Latin American country announced Sunday.
The flames have already left 1,801 people affected, 977 injured and 1,475 in shelters prepared to give shelter to the population of the affected localities. A total of 150 outbreaks are already under control, while countries such as Spain and Colombia have already responded to the call for international aid requested on Saturday by the Chilean government.
For the moment, the regions of Ñuble, Biobío and La Araucanía remain on red alert; the communes of Cauquenes, Curepto, Pencahue, Sagrada Familia, Longaví and Chanco, in the Maule Region, and for the commune of San Pablo, in the Los Lagos Region, according to the balance, according to ‘El Mercurio’.
The flames have destroyed approximately 800 houses in the regions of Maule (3), Ñuble (207), Biobío (311) and La Araucanía (279), according to estimates.
