MADRID, 6 (EUROPA PRESS The Ukrainian Parliament has approved on Monday to qualify the Wagner Group, a network of mercenaries collaborating in Ukraine with the Russian Armed Forces, as an «international criminal organization» in the framework of the Russian invasion of the country.
Deputy Yaroslav Yeleznuiak has indicated on his Telegram account that the House «has adopted resolution 8397 recognizing the private military company Wagner Group as a criminal organization». Thus, 333 deputies have voted in favor of the measure.
In this sense, he pointed out that the consequences that «this classification» will entail are unknown, something that has not been specified for the moment. However, the measure has had a great support among the deputies.
Last January 26, the US authorities classified the Wagner Group as a transnational criminal organization and imposed sanctions against several of its members and entities related to the group.
For its part, the Russian government has warned that the «demonization» of the group by the United States «had already been going on for some time» and has assured that this type of accusations «are unfounded».
