Denmark’s Minister of Defense, Jakob Ellemann-Jensen, has taken an indefinite leave of absence for health reasons, as confirmed on his Facebook profile, where he acknowledged, without elaborating on the details, that he is not ready «to return to work immediately».
«My health is obviously the most important. I cannot be a father, defense minister and party chairman at the same time if my health is not in order,» Ellemann-Jensen has written. «I will be back when I am ready,» he has reaffirmed.
Ellemann-Jensen has told that last week he went to the hospital after having «nausea» and that after his doctor’s advice «it is time to take a break» otherwise the matter could «end badly».
During her absence, she announced that the Minister of Economic Affairs, Troels Lund Poulsen, will take over as interim Minister of Defense, while the leadership of Venstre, the Danish Liberal Party, will temporarily pass into the hands of Stephanie Lose, the current vice-president of the party.
Ellemann-Jensen’s conservative party is part of the coalition government after the hard electoral setback of 2022 when it lost up to twenty seats and where the Social Democrats of the Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, prevailed. The other party is Moderates, a center-right force participating for the first time in an election and which managed to be the third most voted option among the Danes.
