Somalia has reopened this Friday its Embassy in the United Kingdom 32 years later, in an event attended by the new diplomatic representative in London Abdulkadir Ahmed Jeyr, after it had to close in 1991 due to the collapse of the Government of the country of the Horn of Africa.
The Embassy, in the heart of London, is expected to provide consular assistance and services to the nearly 500,000 citizens of the Somali diaspora in the United Kingdom. The opening ceremony was attended by Olympic medalist Mohamed Farah.
Jeyr is confident that the reopening of the embassy will be an important step in strengthening diplomatic relations and goodwill ties with the UK, which reopened its embassy in Mogadishu in 2013 after 22 years of closure.
