The U.S. Army on Friday afternoon shot down a suspicious object flying «at high altitude» over Alaskan airspace in northwestern Alaska, which the Department of Defense had been tracking for the past 24 hours.
According to U.S. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, the object was flying at an altitude of 40,000 feet (just over 12 kilometers) and posed «a reasonable threat to civilian flight safety».
Kirby detailed that, in view of the concern generated by this object, and on the recommendation of the Pentagon, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, ordered the military authorities to shoot it down. The object fell over U.S. territorial waters, according to CNN.
