At least four people have been killed, including a woman, and ten others injured in an attack by a cell of the Islamic State jihadist organization south of the historic city of Palmyra in central Syria.
The jihadists attacked a group of people who were picking truffles about 70 kilometers south of the historic ruins with their machine guns.
Emergency services have transferred to Palmyra Hospital the lifeless bodies of four people and ten others wounded «with bullet holes all over their bodies,» the center’s spokesman, Dr. Wael Jihad Antakli, told the official SANA news agency.
Among the wounded there are some in serious condition who have been transferred to the city of Homs, capital of the governorate (or province) where Palmyra is located, to receive specialized care.
Despite the territorial defeat of the jihadist caliphate in 2019, the organization remains operational through cells scattered across the country, which routinely attack the population.
