The UK’s year-on-year inflation rate stood at 10.1% last January, down from 10.5% in December 2022, in what represents the third consecutive downward adjustment and the smallest rise in prices since last September, the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) said Wednesday.
In January, the year-on-year rise in the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages moderated to 16.7%, compared to 16.8% in December, while housing supplies increased their cost by 26.7%, one tenth more than the previous month.
For its part, the underlying CPI, which excludes the volatility of energy, food, alcohol and tobacco prices, stood at 5.8% in January, half a point below the 6.3% of December 2022.
On a monthly basis, prices recorded a 0.6% decline in the last month of the year, following the 0.4% rise in December and compared to the 0.1% decline in January 2022.
