The head of the Wagner group, Yevgeni Prigozhin, who commands in Ukraine a network of mercenaries allied with the Russian Armed Forces, has intensified his criticism of the Government for the alleged lack of ammunition suffered by these militiamen, thus aggravating the rift that was already beginning to be evident.

According to Prigozhin, his mercenaries only receive 20 percent of the ammunition they need to fight battles such as that of Bajmut, a locality located in the Ukrainian region of Donetsk and which is considered key both in military and symbolic terms in the current war scenario.

«All the claims allegedly made by the assault units about the lack of ammunition are absolutely false,» the Russian Defense Ministry has sentenced in Telegram, following the criticism from who is, theoretically, a key ally in the war but also in the political field.

Prigozhin believes that there are high military commanders in Russia who are trying to «destroy» the Wagner group and, in a recording, he charges against the Minister of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, and the head of the Armed Forces, Valeri Gerasimov. He accuses them of committing «actions comparable to high treason», according to the Bloomberg agency.

British Intelligence estimated in January that the Wagner Group has «up to 50,000 troops» deployed in Ukraine, largely thanks to a recruitment campaign in prisons which, also according to London experts, has slowed down considerably in recent months.
