Ukrainian Human Rights lawyer and 2022 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk has demanded more efforts from humanitarian aid organizations to bring back Ukrainian children who have been transferred to Russia.
She has claimed that thousands of children in Russia are being «re-educated in camps» in an effort to «erode Ukrainian identity» that must be stopped with the cooperation of international humanitarian aid organizations.
«Many Ukrainians have been forcibly deported to Russia, humanitarian aid organizations have to at least try to bring them back,» said Matviichuk, who currently chairs the Center for Civil Liberties in Ukraine.
For Matviichuk, it would be possible to use the resources of humanitarian agencies that have offices in Russia, he cited the International Committee of the Red Cross, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF.
The Russian government has denied that such re-education processes are taking place and has assured that the deported Ukrainians have been transferred to Russia to ensure their safety.
