Canadian driver Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) will finally be able to take part in this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix, the opening round of the 2023 Formula One World Championship, after recovering from a wrist injury that prevented him from running in the three days of official pre-season testing at the same Sakhir track.
«The Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team is pleased to confirm that Lance Stroll will take part in this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix,» the team announced in a statement.
With Lance Stroll’s recovery, both Felipe Drugovich and Stoffel Vandoorne will remain in Bahrain as the British team’s reserve drivers for this weekend, with Spaniard Fernando Alonso making his debut at the wheel of the Aston Martin.
«It was frustrating not to be in Bahrain for pre-season testing. However, given the injury to my wrist, the team and I thought it was best to focus on recovery to be ready for this weekend and the long season ahead,» Stroll acknowledged in a statement provided by the team.
The Canadian explained that it was an «unfortunate» accident that led to his injury. «I fell off the bike when the tyre got caught in a hole in the ground, but luckily the damage wasn’t major and a minor surgical procedure on my right wrist fixed the problem quickly. I’ve been working hard with my team to make sure I’m fully fit to race this weekend,» he said.
