UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has lamented former Health Minister Matt Hancock’s decision to appear on ‘I’m A Celebrity…. Get Me Out of Here!’, a survival reality show where he will participate along with other celebrities.
«I believe that politics is a noble profession (…) but it is up to politicians to earn the respect and trust of the people,» said Sunak regarding Hancock’s new adventure, according to Sky News.
For the British premier, the former Minister of Health should «work hard for his constituents», with which he acknowledged that he was «very disappointed» by the decision of his former party colleague until early November, when the Conservative Party suspended him as an MP.
The Conservative Party then considered that the decision of the former Health Minister, a key figure in the Government during the worst moments of the COVID-19 pandemic, was «serious enough» to proceed with this suspension, by virtue of which Hancock will no longer represent his Westminster constituency.
Hancock resigned as health minister in June 2021 after it emerged that he had breached restrictions during the pandemic to take up with another woman with whom he was allegedly in an extramarital affair.
