The President of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, has recommended to those demonstrating this Wednesday in the country on the occasion of International Women’s Day to do so »peacefully» and »without violence» after the precedents of previous years in which confrontations with the authorities were recorded.
Today March 8 is celebrated, the struggle of women in defense of their rights is commemorated and we are in solidarity with these struggles for the complete emancipation of women», said Lopez Obrador, who has assured that »in Mexico we have been advancing a lot» thanks to the feminist movement.
Women have been making headway both in the daily struggles that have to do with their work in their families, in the role they play in their towns, as well as women who act in public service,» he stressed.
On the occasion of these mobilizations, the Mexican president pointed out that although there will be »protests», he recommended that they be carried out »peacefully» and »without violence», stressing that the government will guarantee »throughout the country» the right to demonstrate.
During his morning appearance, he emphasized that the social policies of the Government have helped men and women equally, being them thirteen million of the 25 who have opted for these plans. At the same time, she highlighted the fact that eleven million girls and young students have benefited from study grants.
At the same time, López Obrador emphasized that more and more women are gaining access to jobs traditionally occupied mainly by men and that in his government they are the ones who hold the most »decisive positions».
Over the weekend I visited four states, and I met with public servants of the nation, 70 percent are women, we are talking about the best public servants», said the Mexican president, adding that in »lower» positions, from »those who serve the people», they are also the majority.
The transformation we are carrying out is from the bottom up and with the people, and especially the engine of this change is women,» he emphasized.
However, according to official data, only in 2022 there were 984 women who died victims of male violence in Mexico. The number of femicides has doubled in the last eight years, when 412 were recorded in 2015. The dismal record remains in 2021, when 980 women were murdered.
