U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield pledged after meeting in Kiev on Tuesday with Ukrainian officials, including President Volodimir Zelenski, and victims of the war that the international community will make Russia pay for its actions.

«My message to Russian forces is simple: we will hold you accountable for your war crimes. Justice will prevail,» remarked Thomas-Greenfield, who assured that she is returning to the United States «determined to hold Russia accountable.»

In this regard, she stressed that in her personal capacity she will continue to work not only to combat the food crisis caused by Russia, but also to ensure that Ukraine can successfully overcome the coming winter months.

«The United States and its allies will support Ukraine for as long as it takes. Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia. Democracy will win in this country,» Thomas-Greenfield concluded his media appearance from Kiev.

Earlier, the U.S. ambassador said that during the day she was able to visit victims of abuses allegedly committed by Russian troops, as well as a forensic center where evidence of these alleged war crimes perpetrated by Kremlin forces is examined and collected.

Thomas-Greenfield’s visit comes less than a week after U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan made a surprise trip to Kiev to meet with the country’s top leaders to discuss the weapons package Washington confirmed for the Ukrainian military.
