Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez confirmed early Tuesday morning her victory in the midterm elections in New York City’s 14th District, revalidating her seat in the U.S. House of Representatives for the second time.
Ocasio-Cortez, 33, won with 70 percent of the vote over Republican candidate Tina Forte, who won just under 28 percent of the support, according to U.S. media reports.
«Thank you to all members of our community and all grassroots supporters for entrusting me with the great responsibility of representing NY-14 in Congress,» the young congresswoman has asserted on her Twitter account.
The Democrat has recalled that her campaign has been carried out with «few dollars», reason why she has been grateful for the support received to form «a new kind of government».
