North Korea announced Sunday the approval of »important and practical» measures for the »offensive use» of war deterrents due to »provocations» by Washington and Seoul, referring to joint military exercises scheduled for this week.
This decision was made during a military commission of Pyonyang’s ruling party, held under the leadership of Kim Jong Un, as reported by the North Korean news agency KCNA.
»Important practical measures have been discussed and adopted during the meeting to make more effective, powerful and offensive use of the country’s war deterrence to cope with the current situation in which the war provocations of the U.S. and South Korea are reaching the red line,» reads a statement which does not specify what policies have been adopted.
Washington and Seoul are scheduled to hold joint exercises starting Monday for eleven days. However, during the past week Kim Yong Un and his sister, Kim Yo Jong, criticized the maneuvers of the US Armed Forces, maintaining that they reserve the right to take »appropriate, swift and overwhelming actions» in response, while accusing the US of »intentionally» generating tension.
