
At least nine Syrian refugees, including eight children, were killed late Tuesday in a fire in a building in the Turkish town of Yildirim, in the northwestern province of Bursa, Turkish authorities have confirmed.
The victims have been identified as a woman, her six children and two of her nephews, without at the moment have been clarified the causes of the fire, which affected the apartment in which they lived temporarily, as reported by the newspaper ‘Daily Sabah’.
The governor of Bursa, Alinur Aktas, said that the deceased children were between one and eleven years old and explained that «apparently they were asleep at the time of the fire, because it seems that they could not escape quickly and most of them were in their beds».
The father of the children was injured due to smoke inhalation while trying to rescue his family, according to the governor of Bursa, Yakup Canbolat. The apartment affected by the flames is located in a four-story building inhabited mainly by Syrian refugees.
