UK Intelligence services have pointed to a »realistic possibility» that the Russian Army is attempting to seize Vuhledar to gain »successes of its own» in its »competition» with the Wagner Group mercenary company, which is leading the offensive against the town of Bajmut.
»There is a realistic possibility that the Russian Defense Ministry is insistent in its push for a success in Vuhledar in part because it wants its own successes to compete with the Wagner Group’s achievements,» they have said, before stressing that »the only recent notable tactical successes» by Moscow have taken place in the Bajmut sector.
Thus, they stated that this sector »is dominated by the mercenary forces of the Wagner Group, which is engaged in a public fight with the Russian Defense Ministry», staged in several criticisms by the owner of the Wagner Group, Yevgeni Prighozin, against the Ministry over the supply of ammunition for the offensive.
On the other hand, the British Intelligence services have underlined that »Russian attempts to storm Vuhledar have slowed down during the last week after repeated and extremely costly attacks during the last three months», according to a series of messages published by the UK Ministry of Defense through its account on the social network Twitter.
»One of the factors in the heavy losses suffered by Russia in this sector stems from Ukraine’s successful adoption of the Remote Anti-Armor Mines Arming System (RAAM). The RAAM is a specialized artillery shell that launches anti-armor mines at distances of up to 17 kilometers from the firing unit,» they explained.
In this regard, they specified that »in some cases, Ukraine has launched the mines over and to the rear of the advancing Russian units, causing chaos when the Russian vehicles tried to retreat» after the fighting.
