Russian forces have made significant advances towards the Ukrainian town of Avdivka, located in the Donetsk region and over which an »envelopment operation» is also being applied, as in Bakhmut, to try to prevent the arrival of supplies to Ukrainian troops, according to Ukrainian intelligence services.

Avdivka is located just north of the city of Donetsk and in recent days has become a declared target of the forces loyal to the Kremlin, which are trying to gain ground in eastern Ukraine to counter the defeats suffered in the previous months.

In the case of Avdivka, the burden of the operation falls mainly on the forces of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, which is sympathetic to Moscow and whose personnel »know the terrain well,» as British military intelligence has explained. Recent fighting has already rendered the city virtually »destroyed».

One of the possible key points in the battle for ultimate control will be, according to London, a Coca-Cola plant, as it would be a key terrain »particularly defensible» for Ukrainian forces.

British experts have pointed out that the situation in Avdivka is »similar» to that in Bajmut, despite the larger size of the latter. In both cases, local troops see the supply line connecting them to areas further west in Ukraine endangered by the efforts of Russian allied forces to encircle the objective from different fronts.
