Chinese President Xi Jinping has invited his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to visit the Asian giant later this year with a view to improving relations between the parties.
Together with him, Xi also extended the invitation to the Russian Prime Minister, Mikhail Mishustin, and stressed the importance of the Russian presence in view of the forum to be held in the country on the Belt and Road initiative, with which Beijing seeks to promote large investments in infrastructures all over the world.
»I have invited Putin to come to China at his convenience later this year as China will host the third such international forum and Putin hosted the previous two forums,» he said during a press conference.
In this regard, he stressed the importance of fostering a closer bilateral relationship between the parties, and informed that Mishustin is scheduled to meet with his counterpart, Li Qiang.
Xi took the opportunity to stress the importance of restoring the mechanism for the two senior officials to meet regularly. Sources close to the matter have revealed to TASS news agency that Mishustin has already accepted the invitation.
