Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, by calling him an «average governor,» all after his victory in the midterm elections and speculation of his name as a candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
«NewsCorp, which is Fox, the Wall Street Journal and the no-longer-great New York Post (…), is determined to support Governor ‘Ron DeSanturon,’ an average Republican governor with excellent public relations,» Trump has written in his social network Truth and has picked up ‘The Hill’.
Trump has attributed DeSantis’ political success as governor to the climate in his state, as well as to the fact that the former president showed his support for him in the 2018 elections.
In fact, the former president has assured that DeSantis approached him «in a desperate state» while he was «politically dead» in 2017 to ask for an endorsement.
Likewise, he has added that «‘Ron DeSanturron’ is playing games» by not answering questions on whether he will run for president in 2024, as reported by the aforementioned newspaper.
DeSantis is seen as Trump’s main rival for the Republican nomination in the 2024 elections if both decide to run.
After learning of the possibility that the Florida governor would run in the Republican primaries, the former US president once again mocked him and assured that he had 71 percent support among the militancy, compared to 10 percent approval for DeSantis.
Trump has announced that next Tuesday, November 15, he will make «a big announcement» at his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, which is expected to be the announcement of his intention to run for president at the head of the Republican Party.
