Police in Thailand reported Wednesday that at least three people have been killed and three others injured in a shooting by a gunman in Petchaburi province in central Thailand.
The shooting has taken place in front of a shopping center in Ton Mamuang and near a kindergarten that has already been evacuated as security forces try to surround the perpetrator of the shooting.
The incident began at around 13.30 (local time) and, as explained by the Police, among the wounded is a senior local official who had gone to the area to deal with the situation. The man, who sustained gunshot wounds to a cheek and an ear, has been taken to a local hospital.
About a hundred police officers have been deployed in the vicinity in an attempt to arrest the assailant, who has barricaded himself in a house and continues firing indiscriminately into the street, according to the Bangkok Post.
Security forces have indicated that the mother of the alleged perpetrator, who has been identified as Anuwat Waenthong, 29 years old, has gone to the area, where she has tried to engage her son in conversation in order to convince him to surrender.
The governor of Phetchaburi, Natthachai Namphunsuksan, also tried to talk to him, but he did not give in and continued shooting.
He also confirmed that among the dead was a food delivery man who was passing through the area at the time of the shooting.
