Russian authorities believe that there are «sufficient channels» to move forward with any negotiations regarding the prisoner exchange with the United States.

The Kremlin spokesman, Dimitri Peskov, has pointed out that the channels of contact between Russia and the United States «already exist and are sufficient» for the final objective and has assured that Washington is aware of the proposals presented by Moscow in this regard.

«Channels exist, they must be discreet. This is the only way to get results. Megaphone diplomacy undermines in these cases the effectiveness of these channels,» he asserted, according to information gathered by the Interfax news agency. In this sense, he affirmed that «the proposals are always serious» and insisted that the United States «already knows this».

Previously, the US President, Joe Biden, has expressed that he is looking for a «more serious conversation» on the exchange of prisoners now that the mid-term elections, known as ‘midterm’, are over.

Washington is seeking the release of prisoners such as Marine Paul Whelan and basketball player Brittney Griner, both convicted by the Russian justice system for espionage and drug smuggling, respectively.
