PT’s hard core tells Bolsonaro that he will not be «persecuted» during Lula’s government

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro has assured that he has received a message from the hard core of the Workers’ Party (PT) that during the next legislature neither he nor his children will suffer reprisals or be «persecuted» by the judiciary.

In the same message, those who have spoken to Bolsonaro have conveyed to him that the objective of the president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, is to look ahead, as he has been saying both during the campaign and after proclaiming himself the winner of the elections.

However, Bolsonaro seems to be wary of this message, as reported by the Brazilian newspaper ‘O Globo’, which speculates that the still Brazilian president may turn to his followers to take to the streets in case he or his children feel persecuted.

Since Lula won the elections a couple of weeks ago, he has been sending messages of reassurance to his rivals, and has even reached out to them to achieve broad consensus with which to reverse the political, economic and social crisis that has been worsening in recent years during Bolsonaro’s term.

Although his rhetoric against the far-right leader has remained unchanged, Lula has emphasized that he will not govern only for his own and has even opened the door to the opposition to participate in the transition process if they so wish.
