Ukrainian authorities reported Friday the start of construction of a fence on the border with Belarus, which the international community accuses of collaborating with Russia in the war launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin more than eight months ago.
The deputy head of the Presidential Office, Kirilo Timoshenko, has told through his Telegram profile that the civilian population has been mobilized with Army troops to erect some of these border barriers.
Timoshenko has detailed that in the region of Volhynia, in the northwest of the country, in parallel to the construction of this reinforced concrete wall topped by concertinas, a ditch has been dug and an embankment has been placed with the help of the civilian population. «Some 3 kilometers have already been fixed,» he celebrated.
Work is continuing in other neighboring regions such as Zhitomir and Rivne, and in turn, Timoshenko emphasizes, «fortifications are being built and borders reinforced in the regions bordering Russia.»
«It is important that regional governments and local businesses are continuously working on repairing the borders. We all want to be protected and do everything possible to stop even a hypothetical enemy advance,» the senior official of the Ukrainian Presidency has said.
