Antonio Conte leaves Tottenham
The soccer world was surprised last Sunday night with the announcement of the end of Antonio Conte’s time in the Tottenham dugout in England. The club and the Italian coach mutually agreed to part ways, after 16 months in which the coach failed to achieve the expected results.
A little more than one year
Conte arrived at Tottenham in November 2021, as a replacement for Nuno Espirito Santo, with the aim of leading the team to the top of the Premier League and European competitions. However, results did not go with the coach and his team was eliminated from the English and European Cups, in addition to being fourth in the Premier League, albeit with two games in hand over fifth-placed Newcastle.
Decision after a controversial press conference
The club’s decision to part ways with Conte came a week after a critical press conference by the coach, in which he called his players «selfish» and criticized the owners and a defeatist culture.
Cristian Stellini, the replacement
Tottenham’s official statement thanked Antonio Conte for his contribution and wished him the best for the future. Cristian Stellini, who was Conte’s assistant, will take over as interim coach for the rest of the season.
Champions League: el reto
Club owner Daniel Levy said they have a challenge on their hands to secure a place in the Champions League and that everyone needs to step up to ensure the best possible outcome for the club and supporters.
An unfruitful experience
With a successful coaching career that saw him make Inter, Chelsea and Juventus champions in their leagues, Antonio Conte is leaving Tottenham after just over a year and with a poor record for the London club.
