A group of 40 people, members of the Alliance of Social Organizations APL, have forced their way this Friday into the offices of the National Electoral Institute (INE) in Mexico City after demonstrating outside the building.

«The irregular entry occurred while they were demonstrating in front of the INE and one of the doors was opened to make way for a visiting car,» the agency said in a statement reported by the Mexican newspaper ‘La Jornada’.

One of the representatives of the political association, Héctor Hernández, has defended the entrance of the demonstrators in the offices of the organism, arguing that it is a «property of the people» of Mexico.

During the rally at the gates of INE, the demonstrators read a manifesto in favor of the electoral reform of the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and assured that there are agreements to impose electoral councilors.

The electoral reform proposed by López Obrador contemplates changes to the electoral body, which would be renamed INEC (Instituto Nacional Electoral y de Consultas). Another of the measures includes a reduction in the number of deputies, which would go from 500 to 300.

The Mexican president has ruled out the possibility of negotiating the electoral reform with the opposition and has indicated that he will respect the fact that the population will demonstrate on Sunday against the measure, although he has defended throughout the week that those who take to the streets are «racists» and «hypocrites», according to different Mexican media.
