Estonia’s Foreign Trade Minister Kristjan Järvan said Thursday in an interview for the EPL newspaper that the Chinese app TikTok will be banned on all official cell phones this month.
However, he has explained that »if a public official uses his private cell phone at work, we will not monitor him».
The app has already been banned on official devices in the United States, Canada, Belgium, France, India, Denmark, Czech Republic, Great Britain and New Zealand and is in the pipeline in the Netherlands.
Officials in several countries have repeatedly expressed concern that the Chinese government may pressure ByteDance — the company that owns TikTok — to hand over information collected from users to be used for intelligence or disinformation purposes.
