Wagner Group founder and owner Yevgeni Prigozhin announced on Sunday night that Russian troops now control the center of the eastern Ukrainian town of Bakhmut.
Prigozhin explained, through the Telegram account of his press service, that Russian soldiers seized at 23.00 hours the center of the city.
»We hoisted the Russian flag with the inscription ‘Good memory for Vladlen Tatarsky’ — a military journalist killed this Sunday after an explosion in St. Petersburg — and the flag of the Wagner Group in the administration of the city of Bakhmut,» he has affirmed.
Thus, he declared that they have »legally seized Bakhmut» and that »the enemy – the Ukrainian troops – are concentrated in the western regions».
For several weeks the most complicated front in the framework of the Russian invasion of Ukraine has been the one located in Bakhmut, as it has been the scene of intense clashes. Prigozhin stated a few days ago that the fighting around this city »practically destroyed» the Ukrainian Army.
