About 20 female students at a school in northwestern Iran were hospitalized Tuesday after alleged poisoning, officials confirmed, nearly two weeks after the last such case and following a spate of similar incidents between February and March in several parts of Iran.
The head of the Department of Emergencies of the province of East Azerbaijan, Asghar Yafari, has indicated in declarations granted to the Iranian news agency IRNA that the event has taken place in the locality of Baghmisé. He also detailed that all of them have breathing difficulties, although he pointed out that none of them is in a serious condition.
The Iranian government assured in mid-March to have arrested more than a hundred people linked to the poisoning of students in several schools in the country, an action that Tehran considers a plot orchestrated by »enemy» countries.
The first poisonings were reported more than two months ago in a school located in Qom, capital of the province of the same name, but since then they have spread to other parts of the country, although it is true that for the moment the real extent of this wave of poisonings is unknown.
