Police Scotland has arrested Wednesday the husband of former chief minister Nicola Sturgeon, Peter Murrell, as part of an operation investigating alleged irregularities in the Scottish National Party (SNP) and has also led to several searches.
Police have reported in a statement the arrest of a 58-year-old man, whom the main media have identified as Murrell, former general secretary of the SNP. He is listed as a »suspect» in the open investigation, of which no further details have been released.
The arrest comes barely a week after Sturgeon’s resignation as head of the Scottish government after more than nine years in office.
